SAILING BEGINNER’S COURSE (level 1)

This course is intended for those persons who are willing to learn the first basic steps of this enjoyable and challenging sport and become a dinghy sailor. After completing this course students are expected to be able to indicate main sailing boat parts & rigging, and sail a triangular course in a
mono sail (topper) in light to moderate condition all under supervision. It is advisable that after completing this course, those students with the ambition to sail independently and want to learn more sailing skills , are to take the follow up Level 2 course. (see Level 2 Course Outline for more information .)

The duration of the course is 12 Hours and covered in four individual lessons of 3 hours each. Lessons could be taken either on two consecutive days, or four half days.


Sailing Level 1: Course Outline

Main boat parts & Rigging, Launching. Clothing & Safety. First Basic knots ( reef knot, clove hitch, sheet bend, bowline, r/turn & two half hitches) Wind direction , orientation & balance.
Basic Sailing Points i.e. Beating, Reaching & Downwind, with required settings.
Required sheeting & center board settings of all sailing points.
Tacking, gybing, stopping, regaining speed and basic boat handling.
Capsize on a single handed boat.

Certificate of completion will be awarded to successful students. If desired standard is not attained, additional lessons may be required prior to certification.
Use of boat/s & equipment, Buoyancy aids, and handouts are all inclusive in the price. Students are accompanied by instructor for the duration of the whole course. Groups of not more than 4 Students per Instructor.

SAILING INTERMEDIATE COURSE (Level 2)

This course is recommended as an immediate follow up to the beginner’s course, Level 1. It is the next step after the basic, where skills learned have to be improved and additional topics are introduced. This course intended for those students willing to learn going sailing on their own, unsupervised in closed waters (i.e. bays ,estuaries or harbors.) IN MODERATE CONDITIONS.
The duration of the course is 12 Hours and covered in four individual lessons of 3 hours each. Lessons could be taken either on two consecutive days, or four half days.

Course Outline:

Rigging & Unrigging several types of boats. Improve your tacking & gybing skills. Introducing theory of sailing & first rules of the road. Learn launching & recovery with inshore & offshore winds. Capsize, safety precautions, man overboard recovery, coming alongside, knots, mast & sail setting,(theory) introduction to seamanship. Further knots, boat trim & balance, heaving to, planning your course, safety precautions. Sailing Independently is the Aim of this Course .

Skill:

After taking this course students are expected to be able to Rig and indicate most of sailing boat parts & rigging, and sail a triangular course in light to moderate condition, Launch and recover boat from a slipway, righten a capsized boat, recover a man over board. Tie 6 different types of knots. (reef knot, clove hitch, sheet bend, bowline, round turn & two half hitches, rolling hitch.)

Level 2 Certificate of completion will be awarded to successful students. If desired standard is not attained, individual additional lessons may be required prior to certification.
